Gimme happy ever after
Gimme gimme that thing called love
- Gimme Gimme, from the musical Thoroughly Modern Millie
So.. Love.
Four letters that the world practically revolves around, but, funny thing is, no amount of scientific research or philosophy has been able to clearly pinpoint what it is. If you go the scientific route, it's a mixture of hormones in the brain, while if you go the route of 90% of teenage girls, it's when your heart skips a beat when you see a boy's name light up on your phone. Either way, it's a cruel, awful thing.
And I think it's the one thing that's always been missing from my life.
Sure, like every other girl over the age of 8, I've had crushes. Even to the point where I've made a complete and utter fool of myself (you know, which has kind of been every time.) And, because of that, I decided that I would swear off of love. I mean, why not? It's such a fickle thing, building someone up one moment and tearing them down the next.
But, when you look at it in a different light, it's beautiful. Watching a woman cry as she sees her husband for the first time in months while he was fighting in Iraq, or an elderly couple look at each other with that rare affection.
It's made me bitter, that gnawing feeling that there's a piece of my life that's missing..
Or maybe I'm just overthinking it. Like always.
