Thanksgiving

The holidays are kind of a big thing in my family. When we celebrate, we tend to make sure EVERYONE is involved. But every year, everything tends to end up the same. Take Thanksgiving for example: wake up, watch the parade for about an hour, get ready, pack into the car with giant containers of my mom's stuffing, and go to my uncle's. That's when the fun begins.
Last year, we watched my uncle sprint across his yard in his boxers to get his turkey from a neighbor's house.
This year, my great-aunt couldn't figure out how to turn the lights on in the bathroom, so she stood in the dark for five minutes while we tried to yell at her the instructions.
Yeah. My family isn't very good at conventional.

Not Just for Halloween

For the spring musical, our school is putting on Annie. I can't act to save my life, so instead, I'm a "techie." I helped with the set construction for the last play, Don Quixote, hammering and painting and whatnot, but this time around, I've actually got a job with a title: Costume designer. I'm not very sure what it entails, but I'm excited to start. I'm also, frankly, terrified. It's a pretty long-term commitment (from December to March), and, even though I'm part of a group, I'll have a lot of responsibility. What I'll help come up with will be seen by everyone! Let the fun begin...

Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust

I'm not ashamed to say that I love Disney movies.
Honestly, my entire childhood has involved Disney.
When I was little, I would watch The Aristocats on repeat for hours on end. The family vacations we would take to Disney World are some of my happiest memories. I guess watching old classics like Beauty and the Beast or Pocahontas just remind me of all of those happy times, especially when I'm really upset. For two hours, I can focus on who will save the princess or the lyrics of the songs instead of any real-life problems.
It worries me that there are kids nowadays that won't care enough, or think it's "too babyish" to watch them.

We Need a Little Christmas

One of the biggest complaints I've been hearing nowadays is that the media is rushing the holidays. Me? I don't think it's all that big of a deal. To be honest, things kind of suck right now. The economy's in the gutters, there are revolts and protests and riots on television every day, and people are just kind of depressed. What everyone needs now to look forward to are holidays and time spent with family.
Or maybe this is just me being old-fashioned. :P

Make a Wish

So, today's 11/11/11.
Not only is it pretty fun to write on papers, but supposedly it's your best chances of having a wish come true. Everyone else is probably wishing for love or world peace or something, and I'm wishing for just one thing:
Snow.
We've gotten a few flurries in the past couple of days, but nothing has actually stuck. I'm wishing for actual snow. Maybe it's a waste, wishing for the inevitable, but I don't see any faults in that.
At least it means I can't be disappointed. (:

Seeing Stars

I've always liked stars.
No, not the celebrity kind, the celestial kind.
This morning when I was standing out at my bus stop, it was still dark enough to see them clearly. Orion's belt, the Big Dipper, the Northern Star.
I didn't notice that the bus had stopped, doors open, waiting.
Even from my seat, second from the front, against the window, my eyes instantly scanned the dark sky.
I don't really understand why I like them so much. Maybe because they're proof that there are more things in the universe than just people, just us. Or maybe because they're just pretty.
I don't think I'll ever really know why.
